OUGD504: Design Production - Design For Web Primary Research Contacting Art on the Underground

As I am producing my web brief based on a competition for children to design the cover of the tube map I thought it would be appropriate to contact Art on the Underground who commission artists to produce the cover. I sent an e-mail detailing who I am and what I want to produce, I made sure that I said that the project is for a university project rather than asking them if I could produce it for them. I did this purely to avoid any negative reactions to the project from them. I will, after some communication has evolved and passed, be asking them if they would be interested in making the project live but for now I am just enquiring.

I wanted to make my e-mail quite formal but I did not want to come across as impersonal and boring, I wanted my personality to come across because they are all creatives and there is nothing worse than receiving an email which is boring and too formal. They did reply straight away but unfortunately it was an automatic response to say that they are out of office. I will await a reply and hopefully will gain more insight into what I would have to do to adhere to the regulations and conditions they would use in this project if they were to produce it.

Response

After a few days I received a reply from Sophie Jamieson at Art on the Underground.

Her reply made me feel very confident about my idea and that I had chosen the correct way to go with the project. The document she had put together for me was also a great help when it came to writing my brief for the competition.
