OUGD504: Design Production - Design for Print Primary Research Talking to my Target Audience

My target audience for the print brief is teenagers who are going through their GCSE's and A-Levels. I spoke to a member of my target audience and asked her what she thought about my concept and if it would be something she would be willing to buy and read. She was very positive about the concept and said that she felt it would appeal more to people who are creative and would maybe be directed to the resource by a teacher or look for it off their own back.

She said that she would find it really interesting to find out about the different ways to print and that she has wondered before how it happens. I asked her if she liked the idea of having just a book, she said that she liked the idea but would maybe prefer something which is a bit more interesting that just a book. I don't want to go back to a concept which is not me but I do want to take her points on board and maybe create something which has a bit more to it.

I asked her if she would be interested in trying out some of the finishes like embossing and foiling and she said that she definitely would. I could include some form of material and instructions for my target audience to try out some of the techniques but I would not be able to include all of them. She said that the ones which she would like to try out would be the techniques which I could not include. I then suggested that I could include a reference book which would detail some of the places where people might be able to try out some of the finishes in the commercial print world, she was very positive about this idea though she said that she would not seek out the places by herself she would go as part of a group. I would have to look into different places which would allow teenagers to go and try out the techniques which would pose problems both with the distribution of my product as it would have to be specific to a certain location and would hinder my intended placement within the industry.

I found this conversation very insightful and helpful and I hope to continue to talk to other young teenagers to get their opinion on my concept which will hopefully allow me to get a better understanding of my target audience and what they would like to see in the info pack.
