100 Ideas that changed Graphic Design
I bought a book over summer called 100 ideas that changed Graphic Design and found a page about abstract graphs. The main focal point of this page was the tube map designed by Harry Beck, the page describes the line between graphs and maps blurring meaning that graphs are now becoming a more common way of illustrating something geographically. Personally I think Harry Beck's design is genius and has completely changed the way metro systems are conveyed to passengers.
In fact, they identified so much with the abstract representation of what had been until then a tangled web that the map became the territory.
