After a number of weeks trying to decide on a concept for my web brief I have decided to create a competition for primary schools to re-design the cover of the tube map.
With the recent 150 year anniversary of the London Underground there was a competition for primary schools within London to design posters for the tube, the competition was judged by Turner prize winning Mark Wallinger. I think it is incredibly important to get children to become more creative and start to enjoy art . A project like this also gives the children an input into something which is very important to them and their capital city. I do however think that the competition has flaws, the fact that it was aimed at children from 5-18 and only within London lets the project down quite a bit. I think it is important that the rest of the country has an input into the design of the tube map in London.
During my crit I spoke about this and found that most people agreed with me. From my research and my crit I have decided to go ahead with the idea I have come up with, even though there has been a similar project go on because I think it is important and would present me with a good platform to inform children about the history of the tube.
