OUGD504: Design Production - Study Task 1

As a study task for the week we were asked to bring in 5 pieces of printed material, these should have as many different processes as we could find.
  • Liz Earle Bag
I chose this bag as it is for one of my favourite shops. I think the bag has been screen printed as the stock is quite thick and the colour is white which cannot be produced from a digital printer.

  • Liz Earle Booklet
As well as the bag I chose to bring in the booklet which accompanied it. I chose it specifically because of the embossing on the cover.

  • Typo Bag
This bag, I think, has been screen printed. Having looked at it in much detail there was some confusion into whether it was ironed on but the look of the ink would suggest screen printing.

  • Sainsbury's carrier bag

I chose to bring in a carrier bag as I am very curious about the process it has gone through. With this in mind I did a quick google search into how they are printed and came across the following:

Flexograph printing

From my findings I have discovered that machines are used to print plastic bags whereas some people might think that due to their mass produced nature they are screen printed. I would like to look into this more as plastic bags are becoming much more popular.
  • Paul Smith perfume bottle

I chose to bring in a perfume bottle to specifically look at different stock which can be printed on. In this case it is glass.
  • Strathmore water bottle
I added my Strathmore water bottle to my collection of products simply because I noticed the plastic had been altered/embossed to have type moulded into it. I think this is very interesting as it could save on printing costs in the future.
