Today we had our first session with Phil and Lorraine about our web brief. We were asked to think about content and audience and produce flow charts and other diagrams which showed the ideas we were having.
Part 1
Your Design for web brief is asking you to design a web site using existing material / content. Within this session you are being asked to identify the following:
- What is your subject matter
- What are you trying to communicate?
- Who will be / could be your audience or ‘end-user’?
- What will be the most appropriate / effective form of content?
- What is the function & Purpose?
What ‘sector’ / Industry you would be designing for (For example):
- Pharmaceutical
- Health & Wellbeing
- Sport & fitness
- Music Industry
- Travel & Tourism
You will be required to work within pairs or groups of 3. You will be required to make mind maps, linear plans and notes in order to reflect back on your blog to analyse the session. This should identify and provide a foundation to start researching and drawing up ideas.
Part 2
Begin to gather ideas how you can articulate your ideas into a workable informal brief, basically your telling us what you aim to design, why, when for and how.
This brief will be there to contextualise your intended motivation / design response / focus of the project.
Answering the questions:
- What is your subject matter?
The Tube map and design on the underground.
- What are you trying to communicate?
Design decisions behind the tube map and analysis of information graphics.
- Who will be / could be your audience or ‘end-user’?
Graphic Designers/students
- What will be the most appropriate / effective form of content?
Informative and educational
- What is the function & Purpose?
Provide an analysis of the tube map and introduce some fundamental characteristics of the information graphics.
What ‘sector’ / Industry you would be designing for (For example):
- Pharmaceutical
- Health & Wellbeing
- Sport & fitness
- Music Industry
- Travel & Tourism
My sector would fall under travel and tourism but it would also be historical and design based.
After we had done this task we were asked to devise a flow chart illustrating the different options we could have for our websites.
