OUGD504: Design Production - Design For Print Target Audience Development

Today I started to look into target audience for my information pack. I have lots of options and each gives a different idea for the information pack. I lean towards new students because I feel I can relate to them more than any other audience, I also think it would be more beneficial to them than it would to children for example.
  • Existing printers
If I were to create a pack aimed at existing professional and printers I think I would have to research significantly into print and different types of print being used by printers globally. This would be very difficult to produce in way which would engage with professionals because I am not at their level. With that in mind I do not think this would be the best audience to aim my pack to.

  • Children
I could make my information pack very appealing to children using illustration and simple language. I think it could be really successful if I made it interactive. Though it could be made very visual and engaging I do not think children will be interested in design for print.

  • Mature Learners
Another market would be mature learners who are not enrolled on a degree course. I could produce my pack aimed at those people, this would be quite professional and in some detail. I do think this market could be very interesting but I do not think they would engage with my interactive aspects as much as I would as I would like them to.

After looking into each of the possible audiences I have decided that new students would be the best to target. I would still like to add some of the interactive features which I would use for children but I want to make it very informative and useful. The language I would use with students could either be informal and humorous or formal and serious. Personally I think people would engage with it more if it were to be humorous.  I have to look into tone of voice in more detail before I can decide on colour schemes and design.
