OUGD405 - How To...

For this brief we had to choose one persons research and elaborate on it with regards to the How To.. brief. We chose Ewan's research on fitness routines. we constructed a survey which we sent out to a set of students for their feedback.

Results...

The findings from our survey showed us that a lot of student exercise and some do not. We were very interested by the money people spend each month. We want to create a free way for students to exercise which can be incorporated into their day-to-day life.

Design related:

We asked this question because we are interested in designing an app to go with our posters.

We are going to display step by step instructions for how to perform each exercise :

Squats :
  1. Stand with your feet facing forward and your chest held out
  2. Place your feet at shoulder width apart and stretch your arms out in front of you
  3. Sit back and down as if you were going to sit on a chair. Keep your knees behind your toes whilst squating and make sure your back is straight.
  4. Lower yourself until you thighs are parallel with the floor and press your weight into your heels.
  5. Keep your body tight and push into your heels to bring yourself back to the first position

Sit ups :
  1. Lie down and have your knees bent and the balls of your feet placed flat on the ground
  2. Place your hands at either side of your head
  3. Tighten your abdominal muscles gently by drawing in your belly button to your spine
  4. Keeping your feet on the ground slowly lift your head followed by your shoulder blades until you are at a 90 degree angle
  5. Hold the position for a second then slowly return to starting position

 Step Ups :
  1. Position yourself standing as tall as possible facing forward in the centre of a step
  2. Lift your left foot off the ground and place it on top of the step
  3. Next lift your right foot and use your muscles to position it on the step above
  4. Carefully place your right foot back on the ground, followed by your left foot
  5. Repeat this process for one minute

Invisible Chair :
  1. Lean your back against the wall, with your feet shoulder width apart, approximately 12 inches from the wall
  2. Slide down the wall until you look like you are sitting on an invisible chair
  3. Your legs should be at a 90 degree angle and your knees should be behind your toes
  4. Hold the position for one minute and repeat when you feel necessary

Push - ups :
  1. Place your toes and hands on the floor making sure that your back and arms are straight. Keep your hands shoulder width apart.
  2. Lower yourself to the floor and stop as your elbows reach a 90 degree bend. Make sure that your body does not touch the floor
  3. Push yourself away from the floor without bending your back
  4. Repeat several times
