OUGD503: Responsive - Redrow Visit

As both Adam and myself read through the brief for Redrow we became curious about what the company was like off paper. We decided to visit some of the Redrow sites to get a feel for just how much of a 'community' they really had. We chose the site at Steeton because it was still undergoing building work, this would allow us to gather primary research for our illustrations and also to speak to some of the people on site.

Steeton

On our trip to Steeton myself and Adam complied a list of questions to ask the people on site, these questions would allow us to make informed decisions about what the content of our website would be. We went into the marketing suite and asked the manager about the Ycn brief to which she has no knowledge of, we then asked if we could speak to some people on site. This was unfortunately not allowed as the building site was not complete and the health and safety would not allow it. We were however, allowed in the showhomes to take photos for our research. Though it was a shame to not be able to speak with some of the current apprentices we were given the contact details for the headquarters in Wakefield who should be able to help us.

Though these images are not directly linked to the apprenticeship scheme they do present us with the designs of Redrow in context. We have studied the brand guidelines for Redrow several times but to see the designs in real life helps massively.

Rochdale

Another of the Redrow sites which we visited was the Rochdale site. This had been complete for several months which meant that the marketing suite and any Redrow staff were not available. Though this was a shame it was a perfect opportunity to take photos of a Redrow site once it had been completed and people were living in all of the homes.

These trips, I feel, were very helpful to our project and have allowed us to make informed decisions about the main set of illustrations which were are going to produce for the website. I also feel that by taking the time ti visit these sites it gives us a sense of the community which we are meant to be selling to young people. I am very confident that our concept will work though I do think that a print element is essential.
