Alphabet Soup : Visual Thinking

I decided on the popcorn idea for my 10 letterforms. I researched popcorn illustrations to see how other people have drawn popcorn. As part of my brief I am limited with the colour, my designs must be in black and white. One problem I found during my experimental stages was that it was hard to distinguish what my drawings were.

Part of my brief stated that I had to use an existing font to create my letterforms. I chose Helvetica as I liked the simplicity of each letterform. As I had to produce 10 letterforms I wanted to make sure that they were easy to work with and I could adapt them effectively.

I asked a range of people from my flatmates, parents and grandparents. I received different answers from all people such as Clouds, Broccoli, Brains and Trees. I knew I had to modify my design to make it look more like an authentic piece of popcorn.

I created this on photoshop, firstly I chose an image of a piece of popcorn then made the outline out of ovals which I warped to create a much more authentic popcorn shape.

Final Letterforms

I think my final designs look really cool though I do wish that I could leave them as a computer print out rather than tracing over each design. I think by doing this I could have made the popcorn look more authentic by adding shadows to make them look 3D. i experimented with this idea incase I get to modify my designs in a further part of this brief.
